Upcoming Workshop ARMAS will be presenting a faculty development workshop for STEM faculty on Saturday, December 10th from 8 am to 5 pm with Dr. Jeff Saul*, a lecturer with the UNM Department of Physics and Astronomy. Dr. Saul's research focus is on implementing, adapting, and assessing the effectiveness of activity-based instruction and highly collaborative, hands-on, computer-rich, interactive learning environments in high school and undergraduate physics classes. His current research emphasizes SCALE-UP which stands for “Student-Centered Active Learning Environment for Undergraduate Programs.” It describes a place where student teams are given interesting things to investigate while their instructor roams—asking questions, sending one team to help another, or asking why someone else got a different answer. Much of his research focuses on evaluating student learning and developing assessment instruments.
July 22, 2010 from 9-4 ARMAS in education will host a Professional Development Workshop for NMHU & LCC faculty. Presented by On-Course. The workshop will assist educators in providing learner-centered education, leaving with dozens of effective new strategies that can be implement immediately. These strategies empower students to become active, responsible learners, improving student academic success and retention. http://www.oncourseworkshop.com/On-CampusFacultyDevelopment.htm
Thank you to all who attend this workshop and making it a great success!
